With chapters on the policy of the East Indian Squadron, the war in the east, the effects of the Dutch entry into the war, and numerous accounts of battles from 1782 to 1783. With appendices of maritime defences in India under the East India Company, De Bussy on the expedition to India, and the defence of Bombay, amongst others. Written by Admiral Sir Herbert William Richmond, a prominent Royal Navy officer and a top naval historian, known as the "British Mahan". He was also the leader of the British Royal Navy's intellectual revolution that stressed continuing education in naval history as essential to the formation of naval strategy.
